The Full Story
Pinky Paws is run by husband and wife. Founder Krystle Woodward and Co-Founder Allen Woodward. Krystle started as an accountant for the City of Fowler in California in 2006 in her hometown. She heard all the dog calls and paid all the invoices to euthanize the animals. She knew she had to do something. She slowly got permission to volunteer to help all the animals along with her mother, friend and handyman. In 2010 she personally financed a home with 2.5 acres to build the animal rescue. For 17 years she worked 40 hours a week to fund the non profit while volunteering 40 hours a week to run the rescue. In 2011 she was forced to form a non profit which was a blessing. She did it all in less than 3 months. Over the years she had many valuable volunteers. They helped downsize. In 2014 Krystle met Allen, a musician whose dream was to have an animal rescue. In 2017 the viral 1st video on The dodo about Betty Boop came about. Betty Boop was a nursing pit bull who was in desperate need. Krystle and Allen trapped her. She would travel 2 miles into town daily to scavenge thru trash cans for food to feed her pups. Then at dusk she walked back 2 miles into the country to care for them. After being trapped, after work on day on Good Friday 2017 Allen and Krystle went looking for the pups. Krystle played puppy sounds as she walked Betty. Betty looked up at her crossed the road and took her down vineyards to an abandoned barn house, she nosed open the door the told the pups it was ok. All 10 healthy pups cried with joy. They were under the house safe. We adopted her. We then focused on search and rescue. Animals that are overlooked, the underdogs. The Pinky Paws van broke down after that mission. In 2017 Krystle personally financed a transit van for the doggies because they needed it.
Over the years Krystle and Allen took on the most difficult missions. No city was too far. All surrounding cities and counties animals are in constant need. They started purchasing traps, cameras and most to take on those difficult missions. Krystle and Allen focus on fitness to stay healthy for intense missions. It never gets easier to be mentally and emotionally strong with the things they see. They are with animals when they have no one else to be with them to cross over rainbow bridge. They help with many car accidents including the longest 27 day mission. They have done 9 freeway rescue missions. Rescued countless mom and pup litters abandoned in the middle of nowhere. They rescue wildlife and get them to professionals. They've rescued the most matted neglected dogs. They study each animals behavior and evaluate the situation to adjust the changing approach. Every animal is different from trapping to xpens and even nets.
Krystle lost her job that funded the non profit January 2023. It was a blessing in disguise. Krystle's dream was always to be a Pet detective. She is now pursuing that. She is in training as a K9 handler Marsha for Pet trailing to help with lost pet recovery. Eventually she has more dreams of animal life saving. They would love to build a big animal sanctuary by relocating with a hospice facility. And help people with vet bills. Once certified it will fund the non profit. Allen has many music projects that also help the animals. They are hoping his recent music project will help them help more animals.
Krystle is contacted all day every day for animals in URGENT need. Help them continue to help those animals.
